Overview

The Maxillofacial Unit offers experience in many aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Specialist interests include Head & Neck Oncology, Craniofacial Trauma, Facial Deformity and skin cancer of the Head & Neck. There is a vast amount of skin cancer cases performed every year and we have a comprehensive, dedicated Skin MDT run with Dermatologists and Pathologists. In addition there are links with the Tumour Board for Skin which takes place at the Royal London Hospital. The major Head & Neck surgery takes place at UCLH in central London.

Training and Development

Although the main purpose of this post is to provide service delivery there will be a significant element of training in many aspects of OMFS to allow the candidate to prepare themselves to enter higher training in the speciality. The job plan will be tailored to align with the successful candidate's experience and to support their individual training needs. Successful candidate can be double qualified in a pre‑T3 position.

Responsibilities
  • Attend general and multidisciplinary clinics and undertake ward rounds independently or with the Consultant on call, and assist in clinics.
  • Participate in joint clinics with orthodontists (both paediatric and adults) and with dermatologists in MOHS surgical clinics.
  • Gain oral surgery experience in both the MOS and Theatre settings supervised by a Consultant or Specialty Doctor.
  • Assist in weekly consultant theatre lists covering Salivary gland surgery, Facial Deformity, Craniofacial Trauma, Skin cancer and Oral Surgery.
