Job summary

You will provide a specialist and timely response for people who may be experiencing a mental health support need or crisis, facilitating improved patient outcomes and experience. You will identify a person's needs, enabling appropriate advice, signposting and onward referrals to services via face‑to‑face assessments in practice and telephone triage. Support and supervision from the wider team, including oversight from Lead Practice Clinicians, will be available.

BrisDoc practice services specialise in providing high quality and accessible health care to vulnerable, marginalised and excluded groups. Clinicians will need to focus on improving health inclusion and removing barriers to holistic healthcare, and will consult and liaise with other community‑based HCPs such as GPs, Paramedics, Pharmacists and Nurses about patient management, admission avoidance and, where necessary, admission into secondary care.

Main duties of the job
Clinical
  • Undertake a full range of activities required to deliver a comprehensive mental health assessment in an emergency situation to those who may be distressed or in crisis, including advising the person in crisis of short‑term coping strategies, providing emotional support, sharing relevant information with professionals, providing defined interventions, completing accurate documentation and gathering information from additional sources.
  • Communicate and liaise with a wide range of people/professionals to build and sustain effective and positive relationships.
Prescribers Only
  • Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence‑based practice, national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.

Essential
  • Current registration with an appropriate accredited professional body.
  • Diploma level/Degree in a relevant health/social care profession (e.g. RMN, OT, Social Worker).
  • Ability to conduct remote consultation/assessment.
  • Substantial post‑registration experience in frontline mental health services, assessment and interventions.
  • Experience in mental health assessment.
Desirable
  • Independent prescribing (essential for prescribing rates).
  • Working towards MSc in Advanced / Specialist Practice or evidence of accumulated relevant experience/knowledge (essential for prescribing rates).
Knowledge and experience

  • Knowledge of equal opportunities and its significance for health care.
  • Understanding of legal and ethical issues/responsibilities relating to clinical practice, especially regarding autonomous practice and telephone assessment.
