Civil Engineer Sustainability Consultant / Sustainability Coordinator - Civil Engineering / Infrastructure projects - Northamptonshire + Hybrid / Remote
Previous Sustainability role experience not essential, excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineer to transfer into a full time Sustainability Coordinator role, training provided, opportunity to join one of the UK's most successful Tier 1 building & civil engineering main contractors, with a very strong and fast growing forward order book.
Role:
Sustainability Consultant / Coordinator (Civils & Infrastructure)
Duties:
- Coordinate LCA (Life cycle assessments) and sustainability data collection across design and project teams in the Civil Engineering sector.
- Translate technical civil design drawings and procurement data to calculate embodied carbon and other sustainability reporting metrics.
- Support in sustainability-related tender submissions for Civils and Infrastructure schemes.
- Contribute to company Net Zero and ESG reporting, ensuring robust and accurate data.
- Support Net Zero strategy delivery by identifying carbon hotspots and opportunities for reduction through design and material selection.
- Work closely with design, commercial and delivery teams to integrate low‑carbon thinking into early‑stage planning.
- Collaborate with supply chain partners to improve carbon data quality and encourage sustainable material sourcing.
- Stay up to date with standards and guidance from PAS 2080, UKGBC, RICS, ICE, and National Highways.
- Support the development of sustainability case studies and initiatives across projects.
- Act as a Sustainability Champion, influencing site teams to adopt greener practices.

Location:
Role is a mix of Northampton office, site visits and remote work.
Requirements:
- Previous work as a Civil Engineer or similar related construction professional role with an interest to transfer experience into a full-time sustainability focussed role.
- Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
- A genuine passion for sustainable design, low‑carbon construction, and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG).
- Ideally at least 1‑2 years of practical experience of civil engineering principles and how they influence materials, methods, and embodied carbon.
- Understanding of National Highways or local authority project frameworks is advantageous.
- (Ideal but not essential) Experience in or awareness of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and carbon accounting tools (e.g., OneClick LCA, PAS 2080).
- Excellent analytical, critical‑thinking and communication skills.
- Desire to innovate and continuously improve — challenging traditional construction methods to find greener, smarter solutions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with CAD, Revit, or BIM modelling is desirable.
