You will also be responsible for supervising all maintenance and survey schedules, with a strong emphasis on the onboard planned preventative maintenance system.

There are certain degrees & certifications obtained throughout the work in this field, which can make a difference between you and other candidates, and this includes current & past experience. If you are an experienced engineer with a solid background in maritime operations, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety of our seas and coastlines.

What will you do
  • Reporting to the Vessels Captain and Engineering Superintendent, you will:
  • Lead and direct a small onboard engineering team.
  • Ensure the safe operation, maintenance and repair of all shipboard machinery and electrical/technical systems.
  • Carry out routine planned and corrective maintenance.
  • Oversee maintenance and survey schedules, with particular focus on the planned preventative maintenance system (MMIS).
  • Contribute to the effective technical operation of our lighthouses, buoys and associated maritime assets.
  • Produce clear, accurate reports and maintain strong communication with shore-based teams.
What are we looking for
  • A Chief Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (III/2) Motor Ships only, or Motor & Steam
  • A valid ENG 1 Medical Certificate.
  • Thorough knowledge of diesel-electric propulsion systems.
  • Understanding of ISM/ISPS Codes and Maintenance Management Information Systems.
  • Well-developed IT and communication skills, including report writing.
  • Knowledge of DP systems (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience working within onboard planned preventative maintenance regimes.

Trinity House works for the benefit and safety of all mariners as a General Lighthouse Authority and maritime charity. Our people are central to our reputation as a leading maritime organisation, as is our commitment as an employer to developing the skills, capabilities and potential of our workforce.

What do we offer

  • A truly distinctive seafaring role within an organisation with a long-standing national reputation.
  • A stable working pattern of 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off, operating 365 days a year.
