Job description

Business Support Officer


Location: 3 days onsite at the Civic Centre in Walsall Town Centre and 2 days remote.
Working hours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Thursday 8.45am - 5.15pm with 1 hour unpaid break. Friday 8.45am - 4.45pm with 1 hour unpaid break.
Rate of Pay: £13.69 per hour
Duration: Temporary basis, 6 - 9 months with potential to extend.

Opus People Solutions are recruiting for an experienced Business Support Officer on behalf of our Client, Walsall Council on a temporary basis.

Purpose of the Role:
As a Business Support Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Executive Team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be at the heart of strategic decision-making, providing high-quality administrative and secretarial support that enables our senior leaders to focus on driving the organisation forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support across the organisation
  • Manage diaries and email correspondence efficiently
  • Handle and respond to enquiries via telephone and email with professionalism
  • Type letters and reports, take minutes, and manage invoicing tasks
  • Create and maintain electronic filing systems
  • Deputise for the Chief Executive's Personal Assistant when required
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a supportive team environment
  • Work in compliance with GDPR and Walsall Council's policies and procedures.


What We're Looking For:

  • Strong interpersonal and customer care skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and remain calm under pressure
  • Demonstrable experience in a range of business support duties
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • An adaptive individual with flexibility to prioritise urgent workloads to meet a deadline while also good time management skills to complete on going daily tasks.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Substantial experience in secretarial and administrative roles
  • NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration or equivalent
  • GCSEs (Grades 4-9) in Maths and English or equivalent
