Qualifications

About the Role:

As a Building Physics Engineer, you will contribute your expertise across a variety of building performance disciplines. You will support the design and optimisation of sustainable building solutions, with a focus on energy modelling, simulation, and compliance.

Passion for building physics, low‑zero carbon (LZC) technologies, and innovative design solutions is essential.

Key Responsibilities of a Building Physics Engineer:
  • Energy modelling and building performance simulation
  • Delivering Part L compliance, EPCs, CIBSE TM59/52 & Approved Document O assessments
  • Supporting CIBSE TM54 operational energy predictions
  • Carrying out SAP assessments
  • Undertaking early‑stage design modelling including passive design analysis
  • Liaising confidently with design teams, statutory authorities, and contractors
  • Producing clear, well‑structured technical reports
  • Supporting marketing and business development activities
The Ideal Person:
  • Proficient user of IES VE (ModelIT, ApacheSim, VistaPro, MacroFlo, VE Compliance)
  • Strong and credible experience in building physics, energy modelling and simulation
  • Experience completing Part L, EPCs and CIBSE TM59/52 overheating assessments
  • Proactive approach and ability to take responsibility on projects
  • Confident communicator with strong analytical and research skills
  • Motivated to reduce carbon emissions in the built environment
  • Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, planning requirements and energy codes
Desirable (Non‑Essential) Requirements:
  • Understanding of mechanical building services systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC system modelling and controls
  • Knowledge of SAP methodology and assessment
  • IES accreditation
  • OCDEA / LCC / LCEA qualifications
  • Degree in Building Physics or related engineering discipline
  • Experience with daylighting simulations
  • Knowledge of BREEAM, WELL or other sustainability assessment methods
  • Strong knowledge of current building regulations and local planning codes
