Job Summary

Building Maintenance Surveyor needed!!

Salary: £24.46 per hour

Location: CB4, Cambridge

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm – 37 hours a week

Till March 2026

Hybrid/Cowley Road and at various sites across the city (to conduct inspections)

Purpose of this role

To ensure the effective delivery of inspections and repairs for council's housing and property portfolio, in compliance with the Council's policies, regulations, and landlord repair obligations. This includes conducting inspections, specifying complex repairs, assessing risk, and ensuring works are completed to high standards within agreed costs and timelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Be responsible for the completion of a variety of inspections (e.g. voids, mutual exchange, damp and mould) across the Council's property portfolio, ensuring compliance with the Council's current policies, void specification and guidelines for landlord repair obligations. This responsibility includes:
  2. Act as the specialist technical expert to support the housing maintenance team, providing appropriate technical input, professional advice and training to colleagues working across the service.
  3. Line managing the assistant surveyor(s), including one-to-ones and monthly performance management.
  4. Identify improved ways of working and deliver associated projects that will reduce cost and improve efficiency.
  5. Carry out any other duties as required by your line manager from time to time in accordance with the grading of the post.
Essential Qualifications & Training
  • Academic qualification in building services or related discipline at least up to HND level or equivalent (post-holder should ideally already possess or be working towards a professional qualification in engineering or facilities management).
  • GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade C) or equivalent.
  • Clean driving license.
