Job summary

A leading facilities management company in the UK is seeking an on-site General Building Engineer for their operations in HMP Stocken. The role involves ensuring safe and compliant maintenance of prison facilities, performing tasks in fire maintenance, RCD testing, and emergency lighting checks. Candidates should have experience in various maintenance areas, including door and extinguisher maintenance. This position requires prison security clearance, with support provided for the application process.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure availability of critical parts for statutory tasks.
  • Perform general and semi-skilled maintenance activities.
  • Conduct monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment.
  • Complete quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units.
  • Maintain fire doors and perform flushing and tap temperature tests.
  • Undertake monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
  • Carry out any other duties as required.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site General Building Engineer in HMP Stocken.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week (across 7 days where a weekend shift pattern is in place). There is a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The General Building Engineer plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner.

What you will do:
  • Ensuring availability of critical parts for statutory tasks and managing remedial tasks in the CAFM system.
  • Performing general and semi-skilled maintenance activities, including security systems like CCTV and alarms.
  • Conducting monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, fire hydrants, and hoses.
  • Completing quarterly RCD testing and inspect Misting Units.
  • Maintaining fire doors and performing flushing and tap temperature tests as per water risk assessments.
  • Undertaking monthly and annual emergency lighting checks.
  • Checking and testing smoke vents as required.
  • Carrying out any other duties as required.
