Role Overview
Histopathology are looking for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist who should be proactive, self-motivated, enthusiastic and have excellent communication/organisational skills. This post represents an excellent opportunity to extend skills and knowledge in Histology inclusive of A-C category dissection, as well as in digital Pathology, across a service Monday - Saturday.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory tasks to ensure specimens are dealt with effectively and efficiently, including specimen dissection on tissues A-C in partnership with lead biomedical scientists and histopathologists.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in routine histology, IHC/Specials, microscopy QC, and be comfortable troubleshooting and resolving technical issues. Familiarisation with automated IHC machines, digital and molecular techniques is desirable.
- Participate in the audit of the technical quality of work produced in the laboratory.
- Assist in the direct supervision of non-state registered staff.
- Assist in the training and education of associate practitioners and MLAs to ensure professional and scientific standards are achieved.
- Assist the Histology manager in rotating as the lead within the routine laboratory area.
- Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, health and safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is desirable.
Qualifications
- Pro-active, self-motivated, enthusiastic with excellent communication/organisational skills.
- Knowledge and experience in routine histology, IHC/specials, microscopy QC.
- Experience with automated IHC machines and digital/molecular techniques is desirable.
- Understanding of ISO 15189 standards and health & safety requirements.
