We're recruiting on behalf of Western Health and Social Care Trust to recruit a Biomedical Scientist. This is a great opportunity to join the trust, where you will work alongside the Clinical Lead, BMS Service Manager and Laboratory team to ensure the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient laboratory service in Cellular Pathology which will meet the standards of UKAS accreditation. The Cellular Pathology service provides Histopathology, Diagnostic Cytology, Andrology and mortuary services in the WHSCT.

The role
  • Adhere to all Trust and Laboratory policies to uphold UKAS accreditation, quality standards, and health and safety regulations.

  • Perform and understand routine analytical procedures, contributing to specialist tasks as directed by the Biomedical Scientist (BMS) Service Manager and Clinical Lead.

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures and quality management systems across laboratory areas.

  • Supervise and mentor junior Biomedical Scientists, aiding in their training and professional development.

  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, clinical teams, and healthcare professionals to ensure smooth service delivery.

  • Manage and prioritise laboratory workloads, maintain accurate documentation, and oversee stock control in line with internal procedures.

  • Participate in clinical governance, audits, research tasks, incident reporting, and continuing professional development activities.

The Person

As the successful candidate you will have the following background and experience:

Essential:

  • HCPC registered as a biomedical scientist.
  • Post qualification experience in cellular pathology.
  • Hold a valid drivers license.
