Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Battery Controls Engineer to design, implement, and optimize embedded software for the HV battery management system in our ERS team. You will develop real-time control algorithms for protection, SOC, and SOH, and collaborate with controls and hardware teams.

The role requires strong C/C++ proficiency, RTOS experience, and familiarity with CAN, Ethernet, and HiL/SiL testing.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or related discipline; OR Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of embedded software development.
• Expertise in battery management systems and battery control algorithms (protection/derating, SOC, SOH).
• Proficient in embedded C and real-time programming; familiarity with MV/HV battery hardware interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software in C, C++ for HV battery management and related components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, HALs, real-time comms, and diagnostics features.
• Collaborate with controls and electrical hardware teams for cohesive system operation; support MiL/SiL/HiL and trackside testing.
• Create requirements and unit tests to maintain robust, scalable code; follow safety and regulatory standards.
