Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Battery Controls Engineer to design and optimize embedded software for the HV battery management system, cells, and related components for the ERS team.

You will implement real-time control algorithms, perform MiL/SiL/HiL testing, collaborate with controls and hardware teams, and help ensure safety, performance, and reliability in high-performance motorsport applications.

Qualifications

• Master/PhD or Bachelor with 5+ years embedded software exp in automotive/motorsport.
• Expertise in battery management systems and control algorithms (SOC/SOH).
• Understanding HV battery physics and operation.
• Knowledge of HV bus networks and components (contactors, fuses, HVI Loops).
• Proficient in embedded C and RTOS; handwritten and auto-generated code.
• Experience with multithreaded/multi-rate control systems.
• Experience with CAN, CAN FD, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART.
• Familiarity with software tools, debugging envs, and VCS.
• Understanding of control theory for electronic systems.
• Knowledge of embedded hardware interfaces and MCU architectures.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and collaboration.
• Excellent teamwork and proactive learning in embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain embedded software for HV battery management and components.
• Implement sensor data acquisition, HALs, real-time comms, and diagnostics.
• Collaborate with controls and hardware teams for cohesive operation.
• Debug, verify, and validate via MiL/SiL/HiL and trackside testing.
• Create requirements and unit tests for robust, scalable code.
• Adhere to safety/regulatory standards for motorsport software.
• Maintain documentation and drive continuous improvement.
