Job description

GSL Education are recruiting a Key Stage 3 Autism Teaching Assistant for a specialist Alternative Provision near Haxby. This role is ideal for someone experienced in supporting autistic pupils who benefit from structure, routine and personalised learning.

About the School

This provision supports pupils aged 4–16 with autism, SEMH and communication needs. Learners are taught in small groups with strong pastoral support and a keyworker approach that promotes emotional regulation, engagement and confidence.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for KS3 autistic learners
  • Use visual strategies, structured routines and sensory support
  • Support academic learning and social development
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and keyworkers
Requirements
  • Experience supporting autistic pupils
  • Understanding of autism-friendly and trauma-informed practice
  • Calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply
