Job Summary

Would you like to join a compassionate, friendly and supportive team, where you can make a significant difference to the lives of women/birthing people, their infants and families? We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join our North Lancashire & South Cumbria Specialist Perinatal Community Mental Health Team.

You will join other psychological staff who are all based in the team and you will be supervised by a senior clinical psychologist. Your role will contribute to the psychological care of service users under the care of the perinatal service, carrying out psychological assessment and intervention (individual and group) under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist. You will also assist with clinically related administration, conduct audits and collect statistics related to departmental research projects, undertake training and project work and liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies. The role is busy, varied and interesting.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the psychological care of service users under the care of the Perinatal Service, including assisting with psychological assessment and intervention for individuals and groups under supervision.
  • Assist in clinically related administration, conduct audits, collect statistics for research projects, and contribute to teaching and project work.
  • Maintain liaison and joint working with multidisciplinary colleagues and agencies, communicating complex and highly sensitive information with high interpersonal and team‑working skills.
  • Participate in regular review of work goals and attend weekly clinical supervision.

Person Specification
  • Essential Qualifications: The Graduate Basis for Registration following completion of an honours degree in psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society, or in the case of non‑accredited courses or a first degree not in psychology, completion of the Society's Qualifying Examination, or a Society‑accredited Conversion Course.
  • Essential Knowledge: Computer literacy, including use of statistical packages, databases, spreadsheets, and literature search techniques; understanding of clinical, personal, and professional challenges in perinatal settings.
  • Essential Skills: Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively in oral and written formats in emotionally high‑stress environments; commitment to working with clients facing significant clinical, service, cultural, and systemic barriers; capacity to work independently and take initiative on a day‑to‑day basis.
