Assistant Medical Secretary

To contribute to the provision of health care to the people of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board by providing confidential and comprehensive secretarial service to the consultant and associated team within the consultant's speciality. Following appropriate systems, procedures, policies and processes, ensuring efficient and accurate typing skills are performed and that timely communication is carried out to allow the patients to experience a smooth journey at all times.

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive secretarial/administrative support to the Surgical consultants and their team.

Routine typing/audio typing of clinical correspondence. Managing Consultant's diaries, prioritising results, organising clinical activity. Liaising with patients, GPs and outside Health Boards to provide treatment and care

Education/Qualifications/Training
  • RSA/OCR III in word processing or equivalent level OR oGood standard of education
  • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
Experience
  • Working using own initiative and as part of a team. oPrevious experience as an assistant medical secretary or similar role. oWorking to deadlines oBeing able to determine priorities
  • Working as a Medical Secretary oExperience of working in a hospital environment. oWorking with multi-disciplined colleagues in a busy environment
Skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills oAccurate typing and the ability to use an audio type back system
  • Ability to take shorthand. o
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
Knowledge
  • Understanding of Office Software packages oSetting up office systems oKnowledge of Myrddin or patient administration system and tracker
