Job summary

St Austell Brewery in Newquay is seeking a proactive Duty Manager to lead our team when the General Manager is away and to deliver outstanding guest experiences. You will motivate the team, maintain service standards, and support both Front and Back of House during peak times.

You will oversee health & safety, cash handling, and the smooth running of daily operations, with opportunities for development toward a General Manager role in the future.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role within hospitality or pub environment.
• Ability to lead front and back of house teams during peak periods.
• Strong focus on guest experience and ensuring memorable visits.
• Knowledge of health, safety and cash-handling procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team in the General Manager's absence to ensure smooth operations.
• Create a warm welcome for guests and maintain high service standards.
• Monitor customer feedback and drive continuous improvements.
• Oversee food quality and kitchen coordination during shifts.
• Manage admin tasks and cash handling during busy periods.

The Fort Inn lies on the edge of Newquay's bustling town centre and enjoys stunning views along the coast.
Work at one of Cornwall's most popular coastal destinations, also renowned as the UK's surfing capital, with spectacular golden beaches and dramatic seascapes on your doorstep.
This exciting role will see you work in an inspiring part of the world, motivating a team of passionate people while supporting and occasionally stepping in for the General Manager.

About You

• Taking the helm when the General Manager is away, you motivate team members to deliver their best and ensure everything is running smoothly and efficiently.
• Creating a warm welcome to guests comes naturally to you, making every first impression count to ensure experiences delight from the get-go.
• Keeping a watchful eye over customer feedback means your team is always adapting to maintain high standards and improve where necessary.
• You go above and beyond to ensure a consistently high level of service, supporting the full team including Front and Back of House during peak times.
• You oversee the consistent production of a quality food offering and recognise the importance of the Kitchen Team.
• Having a wealth of experience in a similar role means you are able to recognise when team members need help and you'll support where needed.
• A keen eye for detail means you keep all admin and cash management systems ticking along as they should, taking responsibility when the General Manager is away.
• You know health and safety regulations like the back of your hand.
• Team members see you as an inspiring role model and know they can depend on you for support and development.
• You take pride and responsibility for your own development, with an eye towards becoming a General Manager one day.
