Job description

We are on the lookout for an Assistant Head of Student Support to join our clients team and play a pivotal role in ensuring all students receive high quality learning, pastoral and academic support. This leadership position oversees campus support services, manages staffing and budgets, and works closely with the Management Team to drive excellent learner experiences and strong student outcomes. The role will also act as the campus Exam Officer, liaising with awarding bodies, local authorities and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management
  • Lead on effective budget management, including local authority funding and staffing budgets
  • Contribute to an annual self assessment process and deliver the quality improvement plan for student support
  • Support the implementation of delivery strategies within areas of responsibility
  • Oversee a robust governance schedule that drives performance and positive outcomes
  • Provide visible and decisive leadership in response to emerging issues
Staffing
  • Communicate effectively through regular meetings with Support and Maths & English staff
  • Lead ALS timetabling and planning in collaboration with management
    Manage performance, deployment and utilisation of ALS staff
  • Conduct professional development reviews within relevant curriculum areas
  • Identify staff training needs and support professional development
    Mentor new staff where appropriate
  • Ensure high standards of performance and hold staff accountable
  • Support recruitment and selection processes for support staff
    Manage weekly, monthly and annual performance targets
Student Support & Safeguarding
  • Oversee the review, recruitment and ongoing management of SEND students, including those with EHCPs
  • Lead strategies for students at risk, ensuring high engagement levels
    Manage pastoral care, mental health and wellbeing support across campus
  • Act as Lead DSL, overseeing safeguarding practices and the safeguarding team
  • Ensure effective use of internal learner management systems
  • Lead communication with external agencies relating to safeguarding or wider support needs
  • Act as the campus Exams Officer, ensuring all examination requirements are delivered compliantly and efficiently
General Responsibilities
  • Contribute flexibly to overall campus management as part of the Management Team
  • Deputise for the Director of Campus when required
  • Represent the campus with stakeholders and external partners
  • Use and manage all relevant internal systems and processes
  • Uphold Health & Safety responsibilities and promote best practice
  • Champion equality, diversity and professional conduct across staff and students
  • Comply with safeguarding and Prevent policies
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Director of Campus
