Job summary

A family-owned care provider is seeking an Assistant Chef for its Kingfisher House Care Home in Perth, Scotland. You will prepare and serve nutritious meals while contributing to menu planning and stock management. The ideal candidate should have a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and good cooking skills. Kingfisher House Care Home in Perth is a brand-new, purpose-built home offering Residential, Dementia, Nursing, and Respite care. With a stunning riverside location, 77 beautifully designed bedrooms, and outstanding facilities including a cinema, café, hair salon, library, and sensory room, this is an exciting opportunity to join our team from the very beginning.

We are now looking for a dedicated Assistant Chef to join our kitchen team. This is a fantastic opportunity to use your skills to create fresh, nutritious meals that bring comfort, enjoyment, and wellbeing to our residents every day.

What We Offer

Mealtimes are a key part of life in our home, and your care, creativity, and attention to detail will help ensure residents enjoy a varied, balanced, and high-quality diet in a warm and welcoming setting.

What You Will Do

You will prepare, cook, and serve a range of hot and cold meals, taking into account residents’ dietary needs and preferences. Working closely with the Head Chef, you will contribute to menu planning, stock control, and ordering, while maintaining accurate records such as temperature checks to ensure compliance with food safety standards. You will also help manage kitchen operations on a day-to-day basis, ensuring food production stays within budget and that cleanliness and hygiene standards are maintained at all times. When required, you will take charge of the kitchen, supporting colleagues and ensuring a smooth service.

What We’re Looking For
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (essential)
  • Culinary qualifications such as City & Guilds 706 1 & 2, or equivalent, are desirable but not essential
  • Experience preparing meals for different dietary needs
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a care environment is beneficial but not essential – full training will be provided
