Overview

The Health and Justice Services Directorate of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust provides physical and mental healthcare to adults in Surrey prisons. The Trust’s motto is “Caring NOT Judging” and it seeks a highly motivated Art Psychotherapist to join a dedicated team delivering specialist therapeutic services to prisoners who have experienced trauma, adversity and offending.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Art Psychotherapy post will provide a comprehensive, highly specialist therapeutic service to people detained in prison, including psychological assessment and therapy, and advice and consultation on the patient’s psychological care to members of the core healthcare team, wider prison staff and other partner agencies.
  • The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and autonomously, within professional guidelines, and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of Art Psychotherapy practice within the service and team.
  • By contributing specialist knowledge from Art Psychotherapy assessment and treatment, the post holder will help shape the overall care plan for each service user, through clinical meetings and documented summaries, taking into account complexity, client need, risk factors and service priorities, and liaising with prison‑based services and community services.
  • The post holder will contribute to developing the Arts Psychotherapists team within Health and Justice.

  • Experienced Art Psychotherapist with a passion for working with adults in custody who have experienced trauma, adversity and offending.
  • Expertise in delivering individual and group Art Psychotherapy interventions.
  • Interest and experience in trauma‑informed approaches for forensic populations.
  • Eligibility for vetting clearance and a minimum of 3 years of residence in the UK.
Application & Vetting

Other Information

The post holder will offer specialist service across Surrey prisons and may be required to travel between sites. Working can be across a seven‑day a week, trauma‑informed service with potential evening and weekend duties. Benefits include free use of onsite leisure facilities and free parking for staff. CPD, training, research and skill‑sharing opportunities are available within a large and vibrant Arts Psychotherapies network. Vaccination is strongly encouraged and supported by the Trust.
