Area General Manager

Location: Bristol, Cambridge, London, Reading (United Kingdom)

Role Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership, management, and development of multiple contracts, ensuring financial and operational commitments are met and exceeded.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and ensure contractual commitments are met and exceeded.
  • Ensure opportunities for strategic development of the contract are exploited, to deliver increased turnover and profitability, additional services and projects, and contracts are re‑won on re‑tender.
  • Ensure business policies and processes are effectively communicated and implemented within the contract.
  • Ensure the provision of healthy and safe working conditions and that clients and company health and safety policy and processes are effectively implemented across Norland Managed Services and subcontractor activities, and are regularly reviewed.
  • Ensure optimum staffing structures operate across contracts, balancing cost reduction with the delivery of service excellence; support peaks and troughs in workload and disaster recovery.
  • Ensure contracts are staffed by fully competent teams, post holders are fully competent, and effective succession planning is in place.
  • Work with other Operational managers to ensure collaborative business development, effective team working, and support to colleagues.
  • Develop contract financial plans for revenue and profit delivery, reduce WIP, debt, cost, and contract growth; ensure these are met and exceeded.
  • Ensure appropriate control systems to meet statutory, policy and contractual commitments.
  • Ensure a customer focus within all operational activities and maintain effective relationships with key client contacts.
  • Promote and maintain the core values of Norland Managed Services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance, advice, coaching and support to deliver best practice selection, training, assessment and recognition/reward.
  • Deliver effective business communication through advice, review, leadership, and direct contribution to management and team meetings, briefings, consultation forums, correspondence, publicity, monthly and ad‑hoc reporting.
  • Support the sales process through solutions development, participation in presentations and consultation meetings, hosting visits, and mobilisation support for new contracts.
  • Provide a learning environment, appropriate training and development planning; ensure basic training needs are delivered and employees are fully competent to undertake their roles and reach their full potential.
Accountabilities
  • Reporting to a CBRE Business Unit Leader.
  • Accountability to CBRE functional heads, as appropriate.
  • Accountable day‑to‑day to the relevant client contacts.
  • Line management responsibility for a contract team and indirectly for relevant subcontractors.
  • Financial responsibility for the delivery of plan commitments for the contract.
Person Specifications
Education

An engineering qualification is essential, preferably HND or above.

Training

Incumbents must be able to demonstrate a career showing continuous personal development.

Experience
  • Essential: Managerial experience at Contract/Account Manager or above within technical and/or hard services.
  • Desirable: Delivery of wider facilities management services.
  • Development and review of teams, appraisal, and application of effective people management practice.

Circumstances
