Job summary

Volvo Trucks is offering an Apprentice HGV Technician program in Reading, starting in 2027. The role covers repairs, fault diagnosis, and parts fitment, with full equipment and dedicated coaching.

The 32-month Advanced Level Apprenticeship combines on‑the‑job training at Volvo’s workshop with block release at Inspiro Heavy Vehicle Academy in Derby, including IMI qualifications. Accommodation costs are employer-covered, and a dedicated Development Coach supports you throughout the program.

Qualifications

• Enthusiastic with a strong interest in heavy vehicles.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and a desire to learn.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
• Strong communication skills and a team player mentality.

Responsibilities

• Assist with repairs carried out to Volvo Standard Times using Volvo tools where appropriate.
• Assist in fault diagnosis processes.
• Learn and comply with warranty procedures during repairs and with warranty material on completion of repair.
• Assist and work with the parts team to ensure correct replacement parts are fitted.
• Learn to use Volvo special tools safely and efficiently.
• Support workshop cleanliness and PPE usage.
• Ensure job cards are completed accurately and time recording procedures are followed.
• Report all vehicle defects to the workshop supervisor.
• Attend college courses and any required training.
