This four-year Level 3 Apprenticeship lets you work toward the Engineering & Manufacturing Support Technician qualification. Gain hands‑on experience in commissioning, develop practical skills, and help deliver projects safely and to the highest standards.
What you’ll do
- Support the team in preparing equipment and systems for testing and commissioning
- Help create and update simple documents such as plans, checklists, and instructions
- Assist with checking equipment is installed correctly before testing begins
- Take part in factory and site testing to ensure equipment works as expected
- Work with suppliers and subcontractors to gather information and review documents
- Help record results, keep documentation up to date, and report any issues to the project team
- Ensure all work follows safety, quality, environmental, and security requirements
- Communicate and work with different teams to help the project run smoothly, following health and safety regulations, standards and guidance
- Follow procedures in line with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards and guidance (e.g. segregation of resources for reuse, recycling and disposal)
- Comply with engineering standards and regulations including British Standards (BS), International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and European Norm (EN)
- Analyse engineering and manufacturing data and information to support technical outputs
- Apply scientific, technical or engineering principles
- Apply problem‑solving techniques to solutions for identified technical problems
- Organise, plan and prioritise workflow and scheduling of work with stakeholders
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, considering cost, quality, safety, security and environmental impact
- Produce job‑specific technical outputs such as engineering drawings, quality control management, computer control programming, business improvement, adverse incident reports, technical investigations, equipment appraisals and specifications
- Provide support and guidance for handover of work to stakeholders (e.g. checklists, product or process status, access to supporting documents)
- Record information – paper based or electronic (e.g. energy usage, equipment service records, test results, handover documents, checklists)
- Follow standard operating procedures and manufacturer’s instructions
- Apply quality assurance and control principles and practices, including physical checks, taking samples, inspections or tests
- Apply continuous improvement techniques and team working principles
- Communicate in writing and verbally with stakeholders, colleagues, managers, and subcontractors
- Use information and digital technology, complying with GDPR and cyber security regulations and policies
- Carry out and record learning and development activities
- Apply equity, diversity and inclusion procedures
Qualifications
- 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science (grade C/4 or above)

Traditionally in the areas of decommissioning and waste management, NSG now has a broad customer base and provides a wide spectrum of services across the nuclear project lifecycle, ranging from expert consultancy support, R&D and engineering design to rekit and refurbishment, site installation services and high-hazard physical decommissioning works, amongst others. This work is delivered at NSG’s own offices and purpose-built facilities and nuclear sites across the UK.
