Kew Green Hotels / Holiday Inn Runcorn is presenting an opportunity for a candidate to join the kitchen team as an apprentice commis chef. In this role, you will produce all menu items efficiently and consistently while following company specifications and always adhering to Health & Food Safety requirements.
Programme Details
Programme duration: 14 months + 3 months to complete End Point Assessment.
Level 2 – Commis Chef.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver an efficient, effective, and profitable kitchen service.
- Support your Kitchen Manager and ensure all Health and Safety and Food Safety regulations are adhered to and audits are passed.
- Follow kitchen SOPs at all times.
- Set up and stock food items and required supplies.
- Prepare food items using required methods.
- Cook food items by grilling, frying, sautéing, and other specified recipes and standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and comply with food sanitation requirements, handling food properly and ensuring correct storage.
- Clean and sanitise cooking surfaces frequently in line with SOPs.
- Perform inventory checks and complete food storage logs.
- Facilitate special requests from guests if received.
- Manage wastage through correct product measurement.
- Complete all training to timescales and look for ways to develop your skills and experience.
- Arrive on time, in the correct uniform, with a positive, can‑do attitude.

To Become an Apprentice You Must
- Be 16 or over.
- Not be in full‑time education.
- Start your apprenticeship whether you’re beginning your career or looking for a change; you can also bring previous qualifications such as a degree.
As an Apprentice You’ll
- Have regular one‑to‑one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace.
- Learn and train for a specific job.
- Get paid and receive holiday leave.
- Gain experience in a real job.
- Study for at least 20 % of your working hours.
- Complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship.
