Waking Night Carer in St Albans, AL4. Casual / Bank Contract is available for an experienced Waking Night Carer to assist a fabulous young lady with complex care and medical needs. £18.50 Gross Per Hour.
Hannah is a gorgeous young lady who will be celebrating her 21st birthday in October. She is very girly – she loves having her nails painted, going to the cinema, enjoying coffee dates, and spending time outdoors. Hannah has cerebral palsy, is visually impaired, has global developmental delay, and epilepsy (controlled with medication). She is a full-time wheelchair user and requires full support with manual handling, as well as complete assistance with all daily and personal care needs, including double incontinence. She has a PEG in situ, which is used for all her feeds, water, and medication, and requires oral suctioning. At night, she wears a BiPAP mask. Hannah is non-verbal, but she expresses her likes and dislikes clearly through her facial expressions and head movements. Hannah lives with her mum, older brother, and their much-loved pets in a beautiful home that has been fully adapted to meet her needs.
When you begin your shift, Hannah will usually be settled in bed, with her final medication due at midnight. Your role will be to provide night-time support, ensuring Hannah is comfortable and her needs are fully met. This includes closely monitoring her SATs machine and heart rate, providing personal care, repositioning, PEG feeds, and administering medication. If Hannah is unwell, she may require suctioning or oxygen therapy. You’ll also be responsible for keeping her equipment and room clean and tidy. On nights when Hannah has a good stretch of sleep, there will be light laundry duties, all directly related to her care. A carer’s lounge, located just next to Hannah’s room, is available during quieter periods of the night and is equipped with a comfortable chair and TV. It is essential that Hannah is always treated with dignity and respect, and that she is kept informed of any tasks before they are carried out. Hannah is a delightful young lady, and this is a role that offers the opportunity to build a rewarding and positive connection while making a real difference in her life.
A personable, kind and gentle female Waking Night Carer. You’ll be reliable, dedicated, punctual, kind, caring, attentive and organised. You will have the ability to engage, interact and be intuitive to Hannah’s needs.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a beautifully adapted home, supported by a warm, welcoming family and a dedicated care team. Many of Hannah’s support workers have been with her for over 10 years, a true reflection of the positive and supportive working environment. You’ll receive full training in all aspects of Hannah’s complex care, including suctioning, BiPAP, and any additional skills required, ensuring you feel confident and well-prepared to provide the highest standard of care.
