AHP Clinical Team Leader - Older Persons Mental Health

AHP Clinical Team Lead - Older Persons Mental Health

We have an exciting opportunity within our Older Persons Mental Health Services for an Allied Health Professional Clinical Team Lead role. We are seeking an innovative, flexible, experienced and dynamic clinician to provide both clinical and managerial leadership to our AHP's across the Julian Hospital older persons inpatient wards.

We are looking for an Allied Health Professional with specialist clinical skills and senior decision‑making skills with a passion for quality improvement and using national best‑practice guidelines to influence clinical practice.

You will be required to use your specialist clinical skills to support service users across a range of wards as well as your strategic skills to support with the development of the service. You will be supported to develop both your clinical and strategic leadership skills.

This role will be based at the Julian Hospital to cover the Older persons inpatient wards. There will also be the opportunity to work with the Older Persons community teams to support and influence Community Transformation.

Main duties of the job

Within this role you will:

  • Provide clinical leadership across the AHP professions.
  • Provide line management supervision to the AHP Band 6's in the team and ensure a structure is in place for the supervision and development of AHP Band 5's and 4's.
  • Advocate for the AHP workforce whilst acting as a central point of contact for leading on decisions relating to Older Person's AHP services.
  • Provide specialist clinical input across the service to support with complex clinical cases.
  • Lead the local AHP meetings and to work with the workforce to ensure outcomes from feedback are actioned.
  • Review audits with the wider team to support the development of clinical practice.
  • Liaise with the Clinical Team Leaders to share this information to support line management supervision.
  • Role model and foster strong working relationships between the AHP groups, to ensure that care is integrated and results in the best possible outcomes for service users.
  • Oversee the roster for AHPs to ensure that the clinical needs of the service are met.
  • Support and manage the attendance and management responsibilities for the team.
  • Liaise with the wider teams to inform them of changes to service provision in response to changes in the workforce.
  • Work closely with the Locality AHP Lead and Principal Lead to support development of the service delivered in order to improve service and service‑user outcomes.
  • Be the conduit for taking information to and bringing back information from internal and external AHP forums.

Please note:

  • Build close connections with each of the ward managers to gain input into the management of the AHPs.
  • For the clinical aspects of this role you will not be allocated to a specific ward, instead you will be required to work flexibly and support across the service to meet the clinical needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • RMN, Dip SW, Dip OT or equivalent
  • Ongoing professional development working towards degree level
  • Higher degree or postgraduate certificate in area of clinical / therapeutic practice
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of medication and the monitoring of its effects.
  • Build on/develop further specialist knowledge of health promotion.
  • An understanding of policies and guidelines both local and national e.g., National Institute for Clinical Excellence guidelines.
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge of mental health practice from previous experience.
  • Evidence of leading service development within in a mental health setting
  • Experience in providing leadership in a mental health care environment.
  • Working in a community mental health team
Skills
  • Establish performance management team structures and systems.
