A research organization in Spain is offering a position for an engineer to develop innovative concepts for forecasting seismicity induced by fluid injection/extraction related to geothermal energy. The position is linked to the ERC-PoC project NOSHAKE, focusing on carbon neutrality challenges. Candidates should possess a Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Geology and demonstrate strong analytical skills, creativity, and a good knowledge of geomechanics. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory.

Formación

  • Candidates should hold a MSc in relevant fields and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in numerical modeling, data analysis, and machine learning will be valued.
  • Scientific publications and conference participation are beneficial.

Offer Description

Join the IMEDEA-CSIC-UIB team to contribute with your research to address one of the major challenges of the XXI century: ending our dependency on hydrocarbons and reaching zero or net negative emissions to achieve carbon neutrality.

We offer an engineer position (6-month full time or 1-year half time contract) for developing an innovative concept for forecasting seismicity induced by fluid injection/extraction related to geothermal energy, geologic carbon storage and hydrogen storage, and to explore its commercialization potential . The position is related to the ERC-PoC project NOSHAKE (a New paradigm fOr forecaSting injection-induced eartHquAKEs), funded by the European Research Council (ERC, https://erc.europa.eu/ ). The candidate will perform her/his research at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in a collaborative and enthusiastic environment.

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for highly motivated, perseverant, proactive and creative individuals with strong analytical and problem solving skills willing to leave their footprint on science. Candidates should hold a MSc in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or Geology and have a good knowledge on geomechanics, hydrogeology, mathematics and seismology. We will value experience in numerical modeling of coupled processes, development of analytical solutions, data analysis and machine learning. Scientific publications in international journals and participation in conferences will be valued. The candidate will be integrated into an international team, so good communication skills and team working capabilities are required. Excellent level of English, both written and oral, is a requirement.
