Your contribution:

Provide expert legal support and advice to the company on various complex legal matters which have a major impact on one or more segments of the company’s business.

Develop legal strategies and provide high-level legal advice to senior management.

Ensure the company’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Reports to the General Counsel EMEA with critical input from the Chief Legal Officer.

This position is located in Hanover, Germany.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee and provide expert legal advice and support to various departments including but not limited to sales, procurement, human resources, finance, and marketing.
2. Support specific customer relationships as Business Partner identified by the GC EMEA.
3. Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of complex and high-profile commercial agreements and transactions such as supply agreements, distribution contracts, procurement contracts, and other contracts relevant to the automotive industry.
4. Advise on and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations while developing strategies to minimize legal risks and liability.
5. Provide practical business-savvy counseling to the businesses in all areas of commercial transactions.
6. Lead in managing legal disputes and litigation matters including liaising with external counsel, preparing legal documents, and advising on strategy.
7. Develop, implement, and maintain corporate policies and procedures.
8. Act as a thought leader on complex transactional issues.
9. Lead M&A and other corporate transactions including conducting due diligence, drafting transaction documents, and coordinating with external advisors.
10. Oversee updating forms, development of tools, playbooks, and processes.
11. Provide legal training to employees as necessary to promote a culture of compliance and legal awareness.
12. Identify continuous improvement opportunities related to the contract review process including identifying, developing, and implementing best business practices.
13. Supervise and mentor junior legal staff and/or trainees.
14. Work collaboratively across regions with other members of the legal department, outside counsel, and other non-traditional legal resources and take leadership on project implementation.
15. Provide other general legal and compliance support to the business in EMEA at the direction of the GC EMEA.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. A Law degree (University/State examination or equivalent); admission to practice law in Germany.
2. 7 years of transactional experience preferably in the automotive/manufacturing industry or in a reputable law firm or a corporate legal department of a multinational corporation.
3. In-depth knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to the automotive industry.
4. Expert contract drafting and negotiation skills.
5. Team player with a proactive approach, strong interpersonal skills, and a willingness to collaborate across departments.
6. Ability to build positive relationships with management and other members of the legal team with demonstrated ability to influence outcomes positively.
7. Familiarity working within a matrix environment on behalf of multiple and diverse business functions and organizations.
8. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
9. Experience managing outside counsel.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both German and English; additional languages are a plus.
11. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, meet tight deadlines, and make solid judgment calls under pressure.
12. Proficiency in data analytics and AI with the ability to leverage these skills to enhance legal strategies and decision-making.
13. Experience with AI tools and technologies relevant to the legal field.
