AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. Responsibilities include overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. You will collaborate with technology leaders, contribute to enhancing day-to-day operations, and ensure improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. You may occasionally participate in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out-of-hours. The goal is to deliver scalable services and ensure a high-availability experience for EU customers. Utility Computing (UC) and the European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) are part of AWS Utility Computing (UC). AWS UC provides product innovations—from foundational services such as Amazon S3 and EC2 to continuously released new innovations that differentiate AWS in the market. As a member of the UC organization, you\'ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Managed Operations engineers engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Review operational health, identify anomalies, and craft actionable bug reports to enhance efficiency and performance. Provide feedback on change management documents, address operational backlog, develop and test scripts, and share knowledge with service teams. Qualifikationen

Grundzqualifikationen

• Nationalität eines EU-Mitgliedstaates
• Nachweisbare Erfahrung als Systems Engineer mit Hardware, Software, Networking und Betriebssystemen
• Erfahrung in der Skripterstellung (z. B. Bash, Python, Ruby)
• Fundierte Kenntnisse von Linux und Networking; Fähigkeit zur Fehlersuche in Leistungs-, Zuverlässigkeits- oder Verfügbarkeitsproblemen
• Fähigkeit, SOPs zu erstellen/überarbeiten und Best Practices im operating environment zu treiben

Bevorzugte Qualifikationen

• Erfahrung mit Monitoring-Frameworks (z. B. CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic oder ähnlich)
• Erfahrung im Mentoring von Junior-Ingenieuren, bereichsübergreifende Zusammenarbeit und Führung strategischer Teamprojekte
• Erfahrung beim Support von Services in AWS oder anderen Cloud-Systemen
• Erfahrung im Betrieb von 24x7 hochverfügbaren, verteilten Anwendungen und Optimierung der Fleet-Nutzung
• Erfahrung mit Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible oder ähnlich)
