Senior Technical Regulatory Compliance Engineer (m/w/d)

The Caterpillar Product Compliance & Support team (PC&S) has locations across the world where Caterpillar & subsidiary brands are developed, designed, manufactured and sold. PC&S provides Caterpillar Inc. with a central team focus on detecting global development of product regulations, understanding the scope of impact to Caterpillar products, authoring process guidance for demonstrating compliance and follow up assurance that products are compliant prior to making available to the regulated market(s).
This opportunity supports the Caterpillar Product Compliance & Support – Substance Compliance team in programs through various activities that assist in managing product compliance risk and ensuring compliance with applicable product regulatory requirements for intended markets.
A focus for this role will be for the European Restriction, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (REACH), Waste Framework Directive - Substances of Concern in Products (EU WFD - SCIP), and Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR).
Understand and stay current on product regulatory requirements specific to REACH, SCIP, SRR and related technology requirements, and understand application of same to Caterpillar products.
Follow and utilize established processes and tools to collect, assess, and manage information in support of product certification and compliance. This will include managing products impacted, compliance and supplier data that is required for compliance for REACH / SCIP / SRR.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities for processes and tools used to manage product regulatory compliance risks.
Collaborate with product groups, design control and operations to ensure the development, validation and production of product that meets applicable product regulatory requirements.
Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science or related science‑based curriculum.
Degree Requirement Engineering, Material Sciences other science or equivalent professional experience.
Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization’s exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.
Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision‑making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
Experience of developing technical reports that demonstrate product capability or compliance to standards.
Strong technical skills with sound knowledge of foundational engineering concepts.
Self‑directed and capable of handling and prioritising multiple tasks.
Strong commitment to product compliance, with excellent communication and influencing skills.
6 Sigma and/or Lean methodologies knowledge and experience.
This is an on‑site position based in Mannheim or Dortmund.
A valid work permit or EU‑25/EFTA citizenship is required for this position.
This role requires up to 15% of business travel time.
