(Senior) Associate – Private Equity — Independent Investment Firm | Munich, Germany

Reporting Line: Partners

Team Structure: Lean, Entrepreneurial Investment Team

The Firm

Our client is an independent private equity firm headquartered in Germany, investing in established mid-market companies across Europe. The firm focuses on partnering with founders and management teams to accelerate growth, drive strategic transformation, and strengthen operational foundations.

With a disciplined yet entrepreneurial investment philosophy, the platform combines strategic insight, capital flexibility, and hands-on portfolio engagement. Its investment approach spans control and significant minority stakes, typically in businesses with strong market positions and untapped expansion potential.

The firm is now seeking a Senior Associate to join its Munich-based investment team, contributing across the full investment lifecycle — from origination through execution and portfolio development.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Origination & Market Engagement

  • Develop thematic research and sector screening across select industries to identify attractive investment opportunities.
  • Support Partners in cultivating relationships with business owners, advisors, and co-investors to build proprietary deal flow.
  • Prepare structured analyses and internal memoranda summarising market trends and potential targets.

Deal Execution & Analysis

  • Take ownership of core financial modelling, valuation, and due diligence coordination for new investments.
  • Build and refine investment cases, integrating commercial, strategic, and financial perspectives.
  • Contribute to transaction structuring, negotiation support, and documentation oversight from origination through completion.
  • Engage directly with management teams and external advisors, ensuring effective collaboration and execution discipline.

Portfolio Value Creation & Monitoring

  • Partner with portfolio company leadership to deliver growth initiatives, operational improvements, and add-on strategies.
  • Monitor performance and prepare value tracking reports for the investment committee.
  • Contribute to refinancing, strategic planning, and exit preparation processes.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience: 3–7 years in private equity, investment banking (M&A or leveraged finance), or strategy consulting with significant transaction exposure.
  • Execution Record: Demonstrated experience in evaluating and executing mid-market transactions.
  • Technical Competence: Advanced modelling and valuation skills with a strong understanding of financial statements, leverage, and capital allocation.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to assess competitive dynamics, business models, and value creation levers with clarity and precision.
  • Mindset: Entrepreneurial, collaborative, and self-directed; thrives in a lean, partner-led environment.
  • Education: Excellent academic credentials in finance, economics, or related discipline. CFA or MBA advantageous.
  • Languages: Fluency in German and English required; additional European languages a plus.

The Senior Associate will work directly with Partners on high-conviction transactions and play a meaningful role in shaping the growth trajectory of dynamic European businesses.
