Scrum Master (m / f / d) – Defence Sector

Location: Kiel, Germany

Workload: 35 hours per week

Remote Option: Up to 60% remote possible after onboarding and manager agreement

Security Clearance: Regular states list (applicable for defence projects)

About the Role

Our client (defence sector, major government supplier) is looking for an experienced Scrum Master to support their agile transformation within complex, interdisciplinary R&D programmes. The successful candidate will facilitate Scrum ceremonies, coach development teams, and help drive a culture of continuous improvement across engineering and IT domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Guide and coach teams in applying Scrum and agile principles within a regulated, defence environment.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies (Sprint Planning, Daily Stand-ups, Reviews, Retrospectives).
• Identify and remove impediments; expedite where necessary.
• Improve transparency, collaboration, and process efficiency across teams and stakeholders.
• Support agile scaling initiatives (e.g., SAFe, LeSS) across multiple workstreams.
• Promote knowledge sharing and contribute to building an agile community.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Engineering, or similar field.
• Several years of experience as a Scrum Master in the defence or aerospace sector.
• Proven track record in large‑scale agile transformation or complex R&D programmes.
• Strong knowledge of agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP) and scaling models (SAFe, LeSS).
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM, PSM) or willingness to obtain certification.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills in cross‑functional technical environments.
• Fluent German (C1+) and proficient English.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps.
• Existing or eligible security clearance under German “regular states” list.
