Zusammenfassung

Eine führende deutsche Universität in Rheinland-Pfalz sucht einen Wissenschaftlichen Koordinator (f/m/d), der das Institut in organisatorischen und administrativen Angelegenheiten unterstützt. Die Kandidaten müssen über einen wissenschaftlichen Hochschulabschluss und sehr gute Kenntnisse in Englisch und Deutsch verfügen. Die Stelle ist bis zum 31.12.2028 befristet mit einem Gehalt nach EG 13 TV-L.

Qualifikationen

  • Abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium, vorzugsweise in biologischer Informatik oder ähnlichem.
  • PhD in einem der oben genannten Bereiche ist wünschenswert.
  • Sehr gute Englisch- und Deutschkenntnisse (mindestens B2-C1).

Aufgaben

  • Unterstützung des Vorstands in organisatorischen Angelegenheiten.
  • Verwaltung der Finanzen des Instituts.
  • Pflege der Website und der Social-Media-Kanäle des Instituts.

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) is one of the largest universities in Germany. Thanks to its location in the Rhine‑Main science region, the university can unfold to its full potential and showcase its innovative power and dynamism. Its status as a comprehensive university allows for multidisciplinary learning and teaching and has great potential for internationally renowned, interdisciplinary research. Almost all of its institutes are located on a single campus close to the Mainz city center – creating a lively academic culture for researchers, teaching staff, and students from every continent.

JGU is in the process of establishing the faculty‑transcending Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences (IQCB, https://iqcb.uni-mainz.de) with the goals of integrating expertise in the areas of computer science, physics, mathematics and life sciences. The institute will develop focus areas in bioinformatics, theoretical biology, and advanced modeling and will provide a central hub where life scientists come together with computer scientists, physicists and mathematicians to coordinate the generation and analysis of complex datasets and develop new methodologies.

  • Supporting the institute's board in all organizational and administrative matters, incl. the recruitment and selection process of members to IQCB
  • Administration of the institute's finances, incl. financial reporting, annual accounts and statements of expenditure maintaining budget databases
    • travel expense reports
    • supporting the institute management with applications for third‑party funding
  • Maintaining the institute's website and social media channels, incl. summaries of recently published computational tools, studies and methods relevant to IQCB
  • Participation in the preparation of scientific proposals, reports and publications
  • Preparing and editing text documents and presentations in German and English as well as compiling statistics
  • Planning, organization and documentation of (international) seminars, scientific meetings and public outreach measures as well as guest visits and on‑site reviews
  • Serving as the first point of contact for the members of the institute, the university and external partners

Your profile:

  • Completed scientific university degree, preferably in the field of computational biology, physics, mathematics or a related field
  • A PhD in one of the above fields is desirable
  • A very good command of English and German (written and spoken) is required (at least B2‑C1)
  • Very good organizational skills and attention to detail, excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with scientists and administrators at all levels are essential
  • Good knowledge and experience in
    • Website content management (e.g. Typo3, WordPress)
    • Standard PC programmes (MS Office, incl. Word, Excel and PowerPoint; image editing software; Adobe Acrobat)

Prior knowledge and experience in the following areas is advantageous:

  • Science management and projects management
  • Applicable procurement policies and regulations, budgetary law, and proper accounting for funds management
  • Supervising and instructing employees
  • Personnel recruitment in compliance with current standards, incl. equal treatment
  • Event management and public outreach measures
  • Working in an international academic environment

We are looking for a highly motivated, reliable and flexible person with the ability to work independently and creatively within a team.

The position is paid according to EG 13 TV-L and to be filled. Employment start date. The position is temporary for a fixed term until 31.12.2028.
