SAP PP / Production Lead – S/4HANA Defence & Security Programme
Next Ventures are currently executing a search for a SAP Production Lead for a Defence & Security Programme.
Location
Remote, with one on site visit per month.
12 months contracts + extension (3 years programme)
Remote working opportunity.

Security Clearance
SC or DV Clearance (or eligibility to obtain), depending on programme needs. (EU / UK passport Holders)
Role
The SAP PP / Production Lead is responsible for the design, delivery, and optimisation of SAP S/4HANA Production Planning and Manufacturing solutions within a defence and security programme. The role ensures production, planning, and manufacturing processes meet strict defence requirements, support operational readiness, and align with secure supply‑chain, engineering, and logistics workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Leadership
- Lead solution design for SAP S/4HANA PP and related modules (PP, PP/DS, MRP, Shop Floor Control, Capacity Planning).
- Translate complex defence manufacturing and engineering requirements into robust SAP configurations.
- Design solutions for production models such as:
- Make‑to‑Stock (MTS)
- Make‑to‑Order (MTO)
- Engineer‑to‑Order (ETO)
- Maintenance/production integration for mission‑critical assets
- Lead the development of production master data models (BOMs, routings, work centres).
- Ensure solution alignment with secure environments and classified production processes.
Project & Programme Delivery
- Drive end‑to‑end delivery of the SAP PP workstream (requirements → design → build → test → deploy).
- Produce and maintain functional documentation including design specs, configuration documents, test scripts, training content, and secure artefacts.
- Lead defect resolution, integration testing, and user validation sessions.
- Coordinate with cross‑functional teams: MM, QM, SD, PM, EWM, Engineering, Finance, and Security.
- Support cutover planning, master data migration, and go‑live readiness for manufacturing operations.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the key SME for Production Planning for programme leadership, operational stakeholders, engineers, and manufacturing leads.
- Run workshops across engineering, operations, supply chain, and quality teams to define requirements and solution impact.
- Communicate design decisions, risks, and dependencies clearly to senior stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with defence manufacturing partners, engineering authorities, and secure facility managers.
Compliance, Security & Governance
- Ensure SAP PP solutions comply with defence‑sector manufacturing controls, export restrictions, and classified production workflows.
- Support structured change control aligned with defence programme governance.
- Work with Security & GRC teams to design compliant role‑based access controls.
- Ensure data handling and shop‑floor information flows respect security classifications (e.g., ITAR/EAR controls where applicable).
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide expert hypercare support for production and manufacturing go‑lives.
- Lead root‑cause analysis for production planning issues impacting operational availability.
- Drive continuous improvement aligned with future defence manufacturing and digital engineering strategies (e.g., digital twins, predictive planning, MES integration).
Required Skills & Experience
- 7‑10 years SAP PP experience, including multiple full lifecycle implementations.
- Strong knowledge of S/4HANA Production Planning, including:
- MRP Live
- PP/DS
- Detailed scheduling
- Advanced ATP (aATP) integration
- Experience in defence, aerospace, high‑security manufacturing, or government programmes.
- Strong understanding of production planning, capacity planning, shop‑floor execution, and integration with upstream engineering BOMs.
- Experience integrating PP with MM, QM, PM, EWM, CO, and MES systems.
- Experience leading teams in large, complex, secure transformation programmes.
- Excellent communication and workshop facilitation skills with senior operations/manufacturing leaders.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with MES or shop‑floor execution systems (SAP ME, MII, or third‑party MES).
- Experience in complex ETO manufacturing environments (typical in defence platforms).
- Familiarity with NATO and/or EU defence compliance frameworks.
- Knowledge of digital thread / digital engineering concepts (PLM–SAP–MES integrations).
- Experience with SAP Quality Management (QM) and Engineering Change Management (ECM).
- Exposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Teamcenter, Windchill, or Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE.
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, IT, Supply Chain, or related field.
- SAP PP or S/4HANA Manufacturing certifications (preferred).
- Project management certification (Prince2, PMP, Agile) beneficial.
