Description of the position

The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and seek to fill the following position at the earliest opportunity :

Research Associate at the University of Leipzig located at the chair of Multmodal Machine Learning headed by Prof. Dr. Alexander Binder. The starting date is the 1st of August 2025. The initial contract duration is 3 years until the end of July 2028.

The position is subject to the regulations of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG . An extension of the initial contract beyond the initial end date of June 2028 can be considered.

The pay adheres to the public service salary grade TV-L E-13 of the free state of Saxony. Full-time employment is intended.

This position comes with the opportunity of a graduation with a German Doctorate title which is an internationally recognized Ph.D. equivalent degree subject to excellent performance in research and the eligibility of a thesis submission.

About

Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) Dresden / Leipzig is one of the permanently established national centers for artificial intelligence at the University of Leipzig and the TU Dresden which is financed by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony. The Leipzig unit aims to bring together more than 200 staff members in close cooperation with a large number of partner organizations from science and various research topics will be pursued within the framework of a graduate school for the fundamentals and applications of data science and artificial addition service-oriented solutions will be developed. The center offers an excellent working environment with access to state-of-the-art technologies and an outstanding GPU-driven high-performance computing infrastructure.

Requirements for the position

The position requires an excellent degree in computer science (Masters degree or German university graduation diploma) at the time of commencement of the employment.

Furthermore it is strongly desirable to have the following skill sets :

  • strong programming skills in Python und PyTorch ability to read code
  • excellent command of the English language fluency in written and oral English
  • pronounced interest in handling large data volumes and data analytics
  • strong interest in conducting research in particular being interested to obtain a Doctorate graduation
  • high motivation to self-learn new technologies and approaches in machine learning
  • readiness to work in Linux-based systems with the usual data science tool sets and to write manuscripts in LaTeX
  • an in-depth understanding of the principles of deep learning
  • eagerness to read every week multiple current research publications
  • ability to work in a structured manner. Perseverence to try again from a different angle.
  • ability to write readable reliable code also without LLM assistance
  • the utmost commitment to produce reproducible scientific results.
