YOUR IMPACT

As a Software Engineer in this team, you will work on systems that directly impact how customers and partners sign up, get assessed or get onboarded into our insurance products.

You will contribute to backend services that support:

• Digital customer acquisition flows for B2C and broker driven B2B channels
• Underwriting processes, including health questionnaires, rules, and risk assessment
• APIs and integrations used across our internal and external ecosystem

You will work with a modern PHP stack and collaborate closely with Product Managers, and other Engineers to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

Your responsibilities include:

• Developing new functionalities: Contribute to the development of new features while ensuring the code base remains reliable, maintainable, and high performing
• Owning your code: Take full responsibility for testing your work, including writing automated tests to guarantee reliability and functionality
• Collaborating with teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain software components, ensuring smooth integration across the entire ecosystem
• Documenting and reviewing: Participate in code reviews and document your work to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainable solutions
• Driving innovation: Bring creativity and problem-solving skills to the table, help us redefine how people perceive health insurance

YOUR SKILLSET

This role is a great fit if you are a solid mid-level PHP engineer who wants to deepen their backend expertise and take on more responsibility over time. Along with a positive work ethic and a willingness to learn and develop both personally and professionally, you will bring the following to the table:

• You have shown ownership for a PHP software artifact on all levels: innovation, maintenance, monitoring and debugging
• You are experienced in producing high-quality software: testing, code reviews and clean coding practices
• You are able to clearly express and discuss technical concepts and write technical documentation
• You have a great understanding of your personal toolset: Operating system, IDE and debugging tools
• You have a proficient level of written and spoken English as well as clear and effective communication skills

You complement your profile with good knowledge of:

• PHP 8
• The latest version of a major PHP framework like Symfony or Laravel
• Building RESTful APIs and their documentation with the OpenAPI standard
• Architecture design pattern like DDD or CQRS
• How to build and maintain backend services via the micro service pattern
• Message queues like RabbitMQ or SQS and asynchronous messages
• Web security and how to build resilient APIs
• Unit testing
• Dependency management with Composer
• Version control with git
• Relational databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL

Not required, but a bonus:

• Experience with an additional backend relevant programming language like GoLang or Python
• Experience in a technology focused environment
• Experience with DevOps, AWS, CI/CD pipelines
• Virtualisation via Docker
• Experience with the Scrum process
• Knowledge of the German language
• Any other knowledge and skills that could help us to build the best health insurance in the world!
