Job Overview

You are passionate about precise Navigation using GNSS and looking for a meaningful opportunity to enfold your talents? Then you are on the right track!

We are supporting the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt. For service positions within the Navigation Support Office, we are searching for navigation authorities to complement our international service team from 2027 onwards!

Key Responsibilities

You will provide services to the Navigation Support Office in the areas of navigation engineering and operations executed for several ESA and 3rd party customers in parallel. You will process data from a combination of a number of GNSS receiver networks, including the ESA network plus optionally sub-networks providing data by contractual agreement and publicly available data.

Service products typically include orbit products (restitution and prediction) and high-rate clock solutions both for the ground and satellite clocks. Beside (near-) real time products enhanced-accuracy off-line or final products may be delivered, as well as additional or auxiliary products (station coordinates, geophysical data – e.g. Earth Rotation Parameters – ERPs, satellite properties, etc.).

Additional tasks are the support to other projects, scientists and industry, and participation in reviews.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

University degree in a relevant engineering field, e.g. aerospace, mathematics or physics or equivalent professional experience.

  • The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with the following experiences/skills:
  • Cross-constellation analysis of individual and combined Multi-GNSS Solutions.
  • GNSS-based Precise Orbit Determination.
  • Analytical and software-based multivariable investigation of navigation parameters to resolve inconsistencies for navigation products.
  • Numerical Propagation and Optimisation in Astrodynamics.
  • Spacecraft Attitude Dynamics and Control.
  • Programming experience with C/C++, Python, Fortran.
  • Desire to extend technical skills.
  • A high sense of operational responsibility and good communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, both in speech and writing.
  • Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with the ESOC environment.

Furthermore

Additional desirable skills are

  • Previous operational experience with GNSS-based Precise Orbit Determination.
  • Knowledge of ESA NAPEOS/EPNS software
  • Familiarity with modern software development tools (Jira, Git, Docker, Gitlab CI/CD pipelines…)
  • Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration.
  • The ability to multi-task efficiently; working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously.

Furthermore, knowledge about current and planned ESA missions should be a given.
