In cooperation with the Chair for Laser Technology at RWTH LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers the opportunity to write a thesis in the ‘Laser Powder Bed Fusion’ department on surface technology and shape ablation.

Modern laser processes such as selective laser-induced etching (SLE) are used to produce high-precision glass components for the semiconductor industry, medical technology or quantum technology with detailed dimensions.

What you will do

• You will familiarise yourself with the topic of ‘Processing transparent materials with USP laser radiation’
• You will independently plan and carry out experiments on the SLE laser processing system
• You measure the transmission with the help of an integrating sphere
• Voltage measurement with the help of polarisation contrast microscopy is part of your area of responsibility
• You analyse, interpret and prepare the results
