We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Global Customs Governance Risk & Compliance to join our team in Hannover. In this critical role you will be responsible for navigating business through complex trade regulations globally, proactively identifying risks, steering the initiation of mitigation measures and following up on implementation. The Global Lead Risk Governance and Processes will be the key responsible for customs risk management & governance matters. The jobholder builds and maintains the Global Customs Governance Framework for the Continental group (policies, standards, manuals and processes) for overseeing and optimizing our organization’s global customs operations ensuring compliance with international trade regulations and implementing effective risk management strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement global customs governance frameworks and policies to ensure compliance with international trade regulations.
  • Take ownership for the global rollout and ongoing enhancement of our customs risk management practice (Customs Compliance Management System CCMS and Customs Internal Control System).
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and audits of customs processes to identify areas for improvement and mitigate potential compliance issues.
  • Ensure adequate and timely mitigation of identified customs compliance deficiencies together with local and regional experts.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to streamline customs procedures and optimize supply chain efficiency.
  • Analyze complex customs data and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with changes in global trade regulations and customs requirements, adapting strategies accordingly.
  • Manage relationships with customs authorities, government agencies and external partners.
  • Develop and deliver targeted compliance trainings to enhance customs knowledge across the organization.
  • Lead special projects related to customs optimization and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Academic degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Several years of experience in customs operations, compliance or related field.
  • In‑depth knowledge of global trade regulations, customs compliance and international logistics.
  • Experience in international customs projects, preferably in a project leading/ managing role.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing governance frameworks and risk management strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent project management skills with experience leading cross‑functional teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in customs‑related software, databases and data analysis tools.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management and external partners.
  • Fluency in English required; proficiency in German and other languages is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as needed (up to 20%).
