Job description

We are looking for a Legal Counsel / Lawyer (f/m/x) in full-time or part-time.

Actively shape data protection in a cutting-edge research environment:

  • Independent legal advice on all data protection matters for the scientific and administrative units of the DZNE – with a particular focus on sensitive health and research data.

  • Data protection support for innovative research projects, including the assessment of complex data protection issues, development of practical solutions, and assistance in drafting data protection-compliant concepts.

  • Review, drafting and negotiation of data protection-related agreements such as data processing agreements, joint controller agreements and data transfer agreements – often with international partners from academia and industry.

  • Further development of the data protection management system at DZNE: analysis of existing processes, identification of risks and design of practical, legally sound solutions for a modern research institute in the health sector.

  • Carrying out data protection assessments and documentation (e.g. data protection impact assessments, risk analyses, records of processing activities or consent concepts) as well as supporting the implementation and further development of organisational and technical data protection measures.

  • Training and awareness-raising of staff in science and administration on data protection-related topics – with the aim of making data protection understandable and practicable.

  • Coordination and handling of data protection incidents and enquiries from supervisory authorities.

  • Successfully completed degree in law.

  • Good knowledge of data protection law (GDPR, BDSG) and a willingness to engage in depth with data protection issues relating to research and health data.

  • Excellent German and business-fluent English skills, both written and spoken, for collaboration with international contracting partners, as well as a confident and professional manner.

  • Experience in contract review and drafting, ideally in a public or academic environment, is an advantage.

  • Strong communication and advisory skills in order to provide effective and reliable support to both scientific and administrative teams.

  • High sensitivity in dealing with confidential information as well as a strong sense of responsibility.

  • A team-oriented personality who enjoys interdisciplinary collaboration and has a high level of sensitivity in handling confidential information.

  • Highly motivated graduates or lawyers with limited specific experience in data protection are explicitly welcome. What matters most is your interest in data protection in the research sector, your willingness to pursue further training and your enthusiasm for working in a complex, socially highly relevant environment.

If you have any questions about the position, please feel free to contact Sabine Lange or Laura Just on0228/43302 - 719 and 709.
