Functions as a member of the hemodialysis healthcare team, providing safe and effective dialysis therapy under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Complies with Fresenius Kidney Care (FKC) policies, procedures, training, and regulations set by relevant authorities. Assists with clinical orientation, precepting, and ongoing training of direct care personnel and facility staff. Participates in patient care implementation and evaluation, maintaining a safe, clean environment. Supports quality programs and process improvements to meet FKC goals.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Staff Related: Participate in recruitment, assist with orientation and training, serve as preceptor, conduct competency evaluations, collaborate on quality standards, and support staff development.
- Education / Communication: Partner with RN and IDT to educate staff on water system integrity, environmental safety, and organizational initiatives. Develop and implement educational programs, monitor quality assurance activities, and ensure policy compliance.
- Patient Education and Treatment: Provide patient-specific education, evaluate vascular access, perform pre/post-treatment assessments, operate dialysis machines, initiate and terminate treatments, monitor patient responses, and document care accurately.
- Reporting and Emergency Procedures: Report significant patient changes, conduct safety checks, document interventions, and assist in emergencies, including CPR and medication administration.
- Infection Control: Support infection control audits, reinforce practices, and participate in educational initiatives for staff and patients.
- Maintenance / Technical: Maintain environmental safety, disinfect equipment, prepare supplies, and ensure readiness for treatment.
- Record Keeping: Document treatment data, review treatment sheets, prepare charts, and manage lab specimens according to protocols.
- Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Include desk work, patient interaction, travel, and physical tasks such as lifting and moving patients and equipment, with accommodations as needed.
- Education and Licenses: Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program, participate in training, demonstrate high performance, and meet state-specific certification requirements.
- Experience and Skills: Preferably at least five years of patient care experience, meet color blindness testing requirements, complete dialysis training, CPR, and IV certification as needed. Excellent communication skills are essential.
