We are currently seeking an experienced Clinical Geneticist (m / f) with strong leadership skills to lead our Clinical Genetics Service within our National Center of Genetics. We offer a full-time (40h / week) and permanent position.

ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTE

The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology, respectively.

The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.

In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application : medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.

ABOUT THE NATIONAL CENTER OF GENETICS (NCG)

The National Center of Genetics (NCG), at the LNS, is responsible for human genetic care in Luxembourg and is divided into three departments : Clinical Genetics Department, Hemato-Oncogenetics-Cytogenetics Department and Molecular Genetics Department. One of the goals of the NCG is to build up genomic medicine and precision oncology, using a state of the art sequencing facility and to provide high-level health care to the Luxembourgish population. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs : the Plan National Maladies Rares and the Plan National Cancer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the responsibility of the Head of Department, you will be involved both in clinical and operational leadership responsibilities. Your main responsibilities will be :

  • Lead the operational and financial oversight of the service, ensuring efficiency and alignment with institutional goals;
  • Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, psychologists, and counselors;
  • Instruct and supervise doctors in specialist training for genetics;
  • Provide expert genetic consultations across a broad spectrum of conditions, including rare diseases and hereditary cancers;
  • Ensure compliance with our quality management system and maintain high standards of clinical service delivery;
  • Review and medically validate genetic laboratory test results;
  • Contribute to the implementation of new diagnostic methods and technologies;
  • Participate in national and international clinical and research networks;
  • Collaborate with research partners and contribute to academic teaching initiatives;
  • Represent the LNS in expert groups, working groups, and international genetics networks.
PROFILE
  • Medical Doctor board certified in clinical / medical genetics, PhD would be an asset;
  • Eligible to obtain a license to practice in Luxembourg (autorisation d’exercer en tant que médecin spécialiste) http://www.sante.public.lu/fr/formulaires/professions/autorisation-exercer-profession-sante/index.html ;
  • Expertise in carrying out genetic consultations in various fields. Experience in the field in oncology would be an asset;
  • Ideally, the successful candidate is familiar with in molecular and / or molecular cytogenetic diagnostics;
  • Experience in managing clinical services, including organizational and administrative tasks;
  • Strong leadership, communication and team management skills, with a proactive work ethic;
  • Knowledge of administrative aspects, clinical operations and procedures;
  • Interest in clinical research and innovation in genetics;
  • High level of integrity, initiative and adaptability;
  • Fluent in English, working proficiency in French and / or German. Knowledge of Luxemburgish is considered an asset.
