Description:

The German Primate Center (DPZ) – Leibniz Institute for Primate Research in Göttingen is a world-renowned competence and reference center for research on and with primates. It pursues cutting-edge research on the physiology, behavior, welfare, and genetics of non‑human primates. In addition to its laboratories in Göttingen, it manages four field stations in the tropics. The DPZ is one of 96 research and infrastructure facilities of the Leibniz Association.

Data Scientist – Computer Vision (m/f/d)

Our research with primates at the DPZ involves a combination of behavioral, physiological, imaging, and genetic data. Such data sets allow categorically novel questions and scientific approaches.
The central task of PRIDAS is to develop and provide data science services in support of the DPZ’s mission. This includes methods for data processing and analysis, as well as the management of highly complex multimodal data.

This role will focus on providing, developing, evaluating, and productizing computer vision methods for the analysis of video and imaging data that are generated as part of the research at the DPZ.

Candidates ideally fulfill the following requirements:

  • Minimum of a Ph.D. (or exceptional M.S. plus 4 years’ experience) in computer science, data science, machine learning, mathematics, physics, or a similar field
  • Experience in Python and at least one deep learning framework like PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Experience with analyzing large data sets or in advanced computer vision
  • Very good communication skills
  • High motivation to support scientific research by implementing innovative data science approaches in a wide range of scientific questions
  • Very good English skills (written and spoken)
