Client Rep - Interconnector Project
Wilhelmshaven, Germany
Introduction

We are seeking a highly capable and authoritative Client Representative to join the Owner's Engineering team on one of Europe's most strategically significant energy infrastructure undertakings. This flagship Interconnector project will establish the first direct power transmission link between Germany and Great Britain, integrating two major energy markets and advancing Europe's long‑term energy security and sustainability objectives.

About the Project

The Interconnector represents a transformational step in European energy cooperation. By linking the German and British power grids via a cutting‑edge subsea system, the project will enable optimised cross‑border electricity flows, improved system resilience, and enhanced support for renewable integration. As part of the Owner's Engineering team, you will be central to ensuring this complex, high‑impact asset is delivered in accordance with the owner's technical, regulatory, and commercial expectations.

Role Overview

As Client Representative within the Owner's Engineer function, you will safeguard the owner's interests on site, enforce compliance with all engineering, Health & Safety, and statutory requirements, and ensure that contractors and service partners deliver works in alignment with the approved design, schedule, and quality standards. You will serve as the primary interface between the Owner's Engineer team, the EPC contractors, service consultants, and local stakeholders.

Core Responsibilities
Governance, Compliance, and Technical Assurance
  • Represent the Owner's Engineer on site, ensuring that all construction and installation activities adhere to the owner's standards, project specifications, and legal requirements.
  • Champion the owner's Zero Harm Culture and ensure rigorous application of Health & Safety measures.
  • Oversee the fulfilment of all easement conditions, land‑use permits, and offshore regulatory obligations in Germany and the Netherlands.
Stakeholder and Contractor Interface
  • Act as the Owner's Engineer's lead representative to the Project Service Consultant and all contractor teams, ensuring clarity of scope and adherence to technical expectations.
  • Manage and coordinate all subcontractors engaged by the owner.
  • Lead or support communication initiatives that strengthen stakeholder confidence and awareness.
Project Execution Oversight
  • Participate in and support the monitoring framework for EPC activities, working with the SHEQ Manager and Project Service Contractor to mitigate risks related to quality, schedule, environmental impact, and operational integrity.
  • Ensure alignment and consistency with the Isle of Grain Representative to uphold uniform owner policies across all locations.
Strategic Advisory
  • Advise the Deputy CEO Germany on all site‑related matters, including risks, contractor performance, compliance issues, and opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Escalate and recommend corrective actions when deviations from the owner's requirements are identified.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in an Owner's Engineer environment, project oversight, or large‑scale infrastructure delivery, preferably within the energy sector.
  • Strong technical understanding combined with excellent communication and negotiation capabilities.
  • Robust problem‑solving skills and a proactive, structured approach to managing complex issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and cross‑organisational teams.
  • Knowledge of European energy markets and permitting frameworks is advantageous.
  • German language proficiency is mandatory.
Location

Wilhelmshaven, with a minimum on‑site presence of three days per week.

Compensation

€90,000 - €100,000 per annum, plus performance‑based project bonus.
