Description
The Category Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating activities pertaining to the procurement of equipment, materials, and services required for the construction and maintenance of solar projects in accordance with company policies and governmental regulations. The primary function of the Category Manager is to manage and execute the procurement process, while maintaining adequate stock levels and staying under budget and on time.
Requirements
- Manage the procure-to-pay (P2P) lifecycle for a variety of complex and critical materials and services required for the successful construction of solar projects.
- Collaborate with the project managers and on-site teams to accurately forecast and fulfill materials and services needs for current and future projects.
- Contribute to planning by providing procurement insights in support of estimating, project management, and scheduling.
- Facilitate vendor communications, including between project managers and vendors, ensuring clear communication and coordination for procurement-related requirements.
- Ensure accuracy in purchase orders by completing thorough review of all POs and invoices to verify their accuracy, compliance, and alignment with internal policies and procedures.
- Work with the Warehouse Managers to maintain adequate stock levels and to utilize existing inventory whenever possible to meet project needs.
- Read, interpret and understand all project documentation such as designs, drawings, insurance, permitting and project scheduling.
- Utilize critical thinking to overcome supply chain related challenges to maintain procurement schedules.
- Support cost optimization efforts by engaging in vendor negotiations, conducting market research, and implementing waste reduction strategies.
- Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.
Required Education and Experience
- Four years minimum of construction procurement experience in related field
- Proficiency with reading blueprints, plans, specs, contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Proficiency with Procore, or similar construction management software
