The Team
The Permanency/Collaborative Practice team is a cohesive and diverse group that works together remotely, consisting of 5 collaborative practice facilitators, 2 family finders and 2 adoption workers. They work closely with various other teams including Intake Child Protection, Family Service, Children and Youth Metal Health, Children and Youth Support Needs and Youth Justice. The team also collaborates with Indigenous Nations to create meaningful family and cultural plans. This established team values the unique perspectives each member brings, working across both urban and rural areas, including remote communities, to strengthen community connections.

The Role
The Collaborative Practice Facilitator works closely with Ministry of Children and Family Development workers, community partners and families to support collaborative planning to address child, youth and family concerns. As a neutral facilitator, you will create a safe and inclusive environment where families can actively engage in the planning process, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.

You will be responsible for promoting and developing the capacity of families and communities to protect children and to support child and family development by seeking out and involving extended family (kin and others) to meet the permanency needs of children in care.

This position offers the opportunity to empower families, strengthen cultural connections, and help children and youth build meaningful relationships within their communities. This role fosters communication and engagement in a culturally respectful way. The role may involve travel to both urban and rural communities in the Northeast LSA within the NorthernService Delivery area.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

1. Preferred Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master's Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare OR
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA) OR
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.


2. Expanded Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree witha Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related OR job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE: If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.


Human Services fields include: Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Experience in facilitating Family Case Planning Conferencing, Family Group Conferencing, Youth Transition Conferencing, Traditional Decision-Making Gatherings and Mediation and Family Finders.
  • Experience dealing with issues pertaining to the safety of children and families.
  • Experience in working with community agencies, dealing with family concerns and perspectives, while respecting confidentiality, and working collaboratively as a member of the project team.
  • Experience in dispute resolution.
  • Experience and/or training in dispute facilitation.
  • Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit).

  • Applicants may be considered who have not yet graduated but have completed all required courses and are able to provide a letter from their educational institution confirming completion of degree requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

About this Position:.
This is a temporary opportunity until July 17, 2026. This temporary opportunity may be extended or may become permanent.
This position may be based in any of the locations listed above. Travel between these communities is required.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
