A government agency in British Columbia seeks an Out of Care Worker to support caregivers for children unable to stay in their family homes. This role promotes connections with families and communities, critical for Indigenous youth. Applicants should have relevant degrees in social work or human services, experience, and a valid driver's license. Our Out of Care and Cultural Connections Team is a close-knit, established group of professionals who care deeply about keeping children connected to family and culture. The team includes four Out of Care Social Workers, two Family Service Workers, and a ROOTS worker, all working together to support extended family and friends who step in when children can’t remain in their family home. This work makes a real difference—helping children stay out of foster care and remain connected to their communities, which is especially important for Indigenous children and youth.
As an Out of Care Worker, you study and support caregivers who step in to care for children and youth when they can’t remain in their family home. Your work helps keep kids out of foster care and connected to their families and communities, which is especially meaningful for Indigenous children. This position can be based out of any of the location(s) listed above. If based out of Campbell River, please note travel to Port hardy is required on a Travel Status. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent and/or temporary vacancies. A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment. Please refer to MyHR for more information on Market Adjustments.
The Port Hardy location is currently eligible for a retention incentive which is available to all regular permanent Social Program Officers residing in Hard to Recruit (HTR) designated communities across the province. In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following:
*Full payment of the incentive is based on regular eligible classifications (SPO R18 to SPO R30) working in an approved location for the full fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). A pro-rated incentive payment may be provided to candidates who work a partial year and/or part-time hours.
