1. Review of legal agreements

• Anticipate and identify legal issues and advise the General Counsel on legal strategies to mitigate risk.
• Draft and review a variety of legal agreements including master service agreements, sponsorship agreements, gift agreements, funding agreements, IT agreements, and licensing agreements.
• Review amendments to agreements prepared from contract templates.
• Review third-party agreements to ensure acceptability to CCS / SCC.
• Negotiate with third parties and influence effectively to finalize agreements.
• Provide advice on processes and documentation and make decisions daily that impact organizational risk.
• Work cross-functionally with all departments to provide legal, business and best practice advice on current and planned projects.

2. Privacy practices

• Review privacy practices to ensure substantial compliance with federal and provincial privacy laws (new and pending).
• Work with General Counsel and external counsel as needed to ensure compliance with laws and best practices.
• Participate as a member of the Privacy Committee and help prepare and deliver privacy training as required.

3. Legal research and templates

• Conduct legal research; review and update contract templates and create new templates as needed.
• Stay current on evolving laws and regulations affecting CCS’s operations.
• Track contract provisions and amendments for potential updates.
• Contribute to diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring staff feel represented and heard.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in an in-house legal department.
• Common Law degree with at least 7 years post-call experience, in-house or with a law firm.
• Admitted to a Canadian provincial bar in good standing.
• Demonstrated ability in legal writing and drafting documents.
• Non-profit sector experience is an asset.
• Experience with marketing, advertising and intellectual property to advise Fundraising teams.
• Experience with information technology and privacy law for digital transformation activities.
• Health law experience is an asset.
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills; attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Excellent ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally; able to communicate with both technical and non-technical users.
• Team-oriented mindset; ability to work independently with sound judgment and to seek help when needed.
• Ability to manage a heavy workload and prioritize to meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Bilingual: French/English is preferred; French is an asset for nationwide operations.
• Ability to handle ambiguity and complex concepts.
