THE ROLE
The site SHE Specialist has responsibility for managing Safety, Health & Environment improvement activities to achieve excellence at the site level. S/he works with site Supply Chain teams to develop the local SHE Strategy and improvement plans to achieve sustainable SHE excellence by reducing injuries, illnesses and environmental impact as measured in the core KPIs. Role has expectations of flexible rotating hours of implementation.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
- Deploy the global/cluster SHE strategy, policy and standards in the site to achieve excellent sustainable results.
- Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls.
- Lead the SHE Pillar in accordance with ManEx.
- Influence senior management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management.
- Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national SHE legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.
- Work closely with Occupational Health personnel to identify and mitigate risks which may lead to occupational ill health.
- Assist the site SHE Manager to develop and lead the internal crisis committees and safety committee; support the site SHE manager in leading serious incident investigation and analysis.
- Advise line management in all accident/incident investigations.
- Conduct trend analysis from incidents, near misses, safe behavior observations and deep compliance audits.
- Manage the S.H.E. data and statistics and provide reports as per requirement.
- Determine training needs and assist in delivery of training programs.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting/follow up of WSIB reportable injuries as required.
- Liaise with Joint Venture partners as required to ensure appropriate reporting and claim management of seconded employees.
- Coordinate Injury Management/Return to Work/Modified Work programs with supervisors (WSIB).
- Approve and monitor chemical SDS management through existing systems.
- Drives internal audits and subsequent programs to ensure SHE compliance and procedures are followed throughout the site.
- Generate, maintain and submit all annual reporting requirements per regulatory agencies and permit requirements.
- Establish appropriate site SHE metrics consistent with business objectives and periodically report progress and effectiveness to management and staff.
- Prepare and update facility SOP’s.
- Understanding of hazardous and nonhazardous waste management practices to include generating new waste streams, creating new waste profiles, coordinate and oversee waste pickups and sign manifests, and compare reporting to regulatory and permitting requirements.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Bachelor’s Degree. Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental Sustainability focus preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of Safety, Health and Environmental or related Factory Engineering or Manufacturing experience.
