Unit Summary

The Emergency Department is a 42-bed unit serving Burlington and surrounding areas, with approximately 45,000 visits last year. It treats patients of all ages and medical backgrounds, including mental health. The PES (Psychiatric Emergency Services) unit is a specialized 4-bed mental health unit within the department. The team is supported by 24-hour Charge Nurses, a Professional Practice Educator, and a Unit Manager. JBH encourages career development and welcomes both new graduates and experienced nurses. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on patient and family-centered care.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker course from a recognized institute, along with a grade 12 diploma.
• Previous experience in an Emergency Department required.
• Experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR required.
• Excellent command of English required.
• Effective communication skills and a genuine desire to care for patients.
• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
• Willing to work all shifts.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as bathing, ambulating, feeding, and transferring patients.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and availability.
