What you’ll do
- Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team (physician, clinicians, social worker, nutritionist, residents, etc.) in providing nursing care for clinic patients. This includes assessment planning, implementing and evaluation of care plans.
- Coordinates referral and care of complex patients.
- Coordinates in hospital or community referrals for specific patients. Maintains liaison with other hospital programs and community resources.
- Provides orientation to MSI, residents, fellows and nurses for specific clinic services.
- Participates in Quality assurance activities for the program, i.e. chart audits and compiling statistics.
- Provides education materials and phone consultation to other care providers in the Province of BC as requested (outreach).
- Educates patients on aspects of pregnancy, labour, delivery and postpartum care by providing appropriate reading material, resources and explanations of care management.
What you bring
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM)
- Two (2) years recent related experience in caring for obstetrically complex women including experience in fetal monitoring and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification in Cardiotocography required.
- Current CPR
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BCW contexts found in foundational documents.
Core Competencies
- Brings an understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure, demonstrating leadership in breaking down barriers and ensuring an environment of belonging.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with addressing Indigenous-specific anti-racism.
Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to apply maternal-fetal nursing theory and expertise.
- Knowledge and skills associated with sterile procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to organize work.
- Demonstrates a commitment to personal learning related to Indigenous-specific racism and dismantling systems of oppression.
